Have just uploaded part of the website for the studio I am working for, called Design Bar Inc. This is still work in progress, but suggestions/feedback/comments are welcome.
Was fun working on it, literally an overnight job, amazing how fast you get when you have to. Ofcourse the diploma project I'm supposed to be working on has conveniently been tossed outt eh window for now.

Clubbing Requiem Style (not), and Broadway Abroad

It's pathetic to leave something for later, cos by the time you get back to it, it's redundant, and there is now no use or value for the next episode, that you had earlier promised. This may also be an excuse for not finishing what one had earlier set out to do. In this case, it would be an excuse for not finishing the Clubbing Requiem Style article, to which I had promised there would be juicier parts to come.

Well, anyhow, today's post is to inform people that I have been working on a website, for a company called Broadway Abroad, and it is finally up. They are planning to bring Broadway musicals to India, and we did their logo, and stationery, and website.

Tell me what you think, well it's not much really, just that it's exciting that it's uploaded and working :P

I worked on it with Shahna, the creative director of the firm I'm working for, called DBar Inc. in New Delhi. We are also working on the redesign of an Indian music magazine called RAVE.

Do take a look, and pick up the magazine, it's on the stands, and it's only 50 bucks We haven't redesigned yet, but it's happening, and should be implemented in the next couple of months! yay!

Clubbing Requiem Style

Has anybody ever made a documentary on clubbing? It could be a very "Requiem"-ish short film, pointing out the pointlessness of the whole concept. Let me summarise, imagine those sharp, clean cuts that get shorter and shorter like in the film "Requiem For A Dream" while I describe to you a night of clubbing.

So you make a plan with a couple of friends, decide to go out partying tonight. About seven in the evening you start getting dressed, thinking you'll be ready by nine, so you can reach the club latest by ten, in order to beat the mob that begins to form by eleven. Let's say there's two of you, one that goes out clubbing a lot, and one who thinks it's going to be great, has done it before a few times, not enjoyed it, but still, thinks it's going to be great.

The regular club-goer, has a series of clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. to choose from (we're assuming that both these people are females, obviously). The other, optimistic despite prior experience, does NOT. Nonetheless, makes do with what she has, borrows, creates, usually just borrows, and is happy enough with herself. She takes about twenty minutes to make a decision on what she is going to wear. The regular club-goer (who we will refer to as RCG), however, takes about two and a half hours to make a decision. We are talking about a person who goes out almost three times a week. So for the RCG, this is something that happens THREE TIMES A WEEK.

At last, they are dressed, the "other" has been eagerly but patiently waiting for the RCG to get dressed, while entertaining herself watching television, or, more likely, on Facebook.

It is now half past eleven, of course these are the kind of people who have chauffeur driven cars, or boyfriends drowning in wealth. One of the two, here, lets say, the RCG's boyfriend comes to pick them up. He's probably wearing one of those crinkled shirts, with some shitty silver graphics all over it. The shirt probably a tad bit too tight, because he wants the girls to "get a load of his muscles" but in the process reveals the slight paunch that is developing, which, by the time he's thirty, will be a full fledged pot belly.

He picks them up, and they're off. Not such an easy task getting there. Traffic is insane, but they're in an air conditioned car, with their music, and maybe a bottle of vodka that they're swigging shots from, so who gives a shit? After all, ninety percent of the people who go in there, ar enot going to be able to afford the alcohol anyway, so makes sense to get drunk before you reach so you can enjoy the... err... enjoy the... "ambience"

After reading about measuring in "Smoot"(refer previous article)... Ginkle and I decided to create our own unit. We haven't yet, but we did perform an experiment in the BMW. The length of one bench in the BMW is 4.5 Pepsi. Where one Pepsi is the height(length in this case), of a standard glass Pepsi bottle, I think it's a 200ml bottle.
Imagine if we spoke in terms of, say, "Adi" or "Ginkle" haha! The pigeon path is 37 Ginkles long, and 1 Adi wide.

It's been four months since my last post. As usual I proved myself correct by discontinuing to update my blog(I had told myself it wouldn't last more than a couple of weeks).
I just missed a train to GOA right now... a few hours ago to be precise. IDIOT!
As every action usually has a reaction(forget the "equal and opposite" bit of the theory for the moment, considering there is no motion involved here), mine was to look for something to do in order to stop me from flinging my phone across the room!
Ergo the new post today after such a long dry spell.
Anyway(despite my hatred for the word, I must use it), here's something to make my blog a little interesting.

Today, while flipping through the I.D. Magazine's March issue, there was an article on ornamental design, and how it's all the rage. The article spoke about the return of decoration
in the form of bling, perforations, text and fractals. Mostly non-functional, beautiful, and sometimes with a touch of humour or satire, here are some products that I wouldn't mind having in my own house/hut/shelter(depending on my financial condition), spare a few,
which are 'OTT'!!

A set of 'lace drains' designed by The Ornamented Life,
a firm which designs products for the fun of it.
These drain catchers are ornamental as well as functional,
and make the task of doing the dishes a little less dreary!

MINALE MAEDA is a design studio formed by Mario Minale and Kuniko Maeda in Rotterdam, Netherlands. They 'work from a conceptual angle on topics of contemporary culture, out of own initiative and on assignment'. I love this next product!

Oh here's something ridiculous...!! Chanel just came out with a new perfume, to be sold especially in Third World countries. The idea was to make it cost effective, and durable, for dusty, polluted areas in the southern hemisphere... (note the sarcasm), as "Smelling positively bewitching should be the right of everyone, not just a privileged few," says Chanel CEO, Maureen Chiquet. The product is called Chanel 3rd (the audacity!), and after working for six years, they managed to bring down the price from the regular 300$ an ounce, to 100$!!! And this, in Maureen's own words, a price for 'Bangladeshi floodplain villages' and 'Nigerian shanty towns'. I can almost hear her pronouncing it as bang-la(as in latter)-dehsh-eee.

I am freaking out 'cos I have to finish my project (start first) and figure out a place to intern. If I'm going to keep downloading films, it's never going to happen. Anyway, here are picturets of the area that I live in.... I watched Geetika's film the other day which has been shot there, and remembered how beautiful it is! These pictures are all in small villages close to and beyond Mussoorie, an hour away from my hometown, Dehradun.

I changed the way my blog looks again. Though this is what everyone else's looks like. Anyway, it's 8:30 am, and I haven't slept all night. Watched the sunrise and then went for breakfast. WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN

I watched Pedro Almodóvar's 'Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown' yesterday.... His films are so red! And bold. But it was very entertaining... and my favourite shot is the one where Lucia reaches the airport and you can only see her head gliding across the frame as she stands on the moving walkway. And it was nice to see a lot of people turn up.

21 JUMP STREET!!! JOHNNY DEPP....

I also downloaded the pilot episode of Johnny Depp's first TV series, "21 J u mp Street" where he plays a cop under cover. It's refreshing to watch Johnny Depp's performance (1987) because it hadn't yet been tarnished, for lack of a better word, by the roles that he played in the several films that he acted in later. I mean I watched 'The Libertine', and I could see traces of Jack Sparrow in it, which was disappointing, but inevitable. And of course, he's looking 100 percent HOT in 21 Jump Street!!! And young too! That's like having my cake and eating it too. Hee hee! Can't wait to watch Pirates III, although it's not a personal favourite out of the plethora of films he has done.

So today I bought myself an export reject Marks and Spencer T-Shirt with black and white stripes, for 200 bucks. And I am sooo excited!! And Ginkle bought a GAP Jacket, a beautiful green in corduroy... I am sooo jealous!!!!
Hmm oh and I counted the number of grains of rice there are in one spoon of rice. 250. so you can do the rest of the math.
I'm too lazy to upload pictures onto my blog so I shall make my writing as interesting as possible. For me to read it over and over again.
I need to apply to a whole lot of places for my internship because Itu Mama Tambien (inside joke) is acting pricey and I've lost my patience. I want to intern with a fashion photographer. Or a magazine. So anybody with contacts please let me know.

help and other things

hmm. i just changed how my blog looks. i dont know how to change the layout and stuff yet... i guess it's some html shit which ill never figure out... but this is fun... i'm actually writing here which is cool...
anyway so i'm doing my project on the NID Film Club and how i can get more people to come and watch films... here's what i thought of, and suggestions would be welcome.
well, first off, i thought it would be nice if we could have some sort of a space, maybe a wall, outside the auditorium, where you can just pick up a pen and write you thoughts on the film right after youve watched it. i know that whenever i watch a film, i want to talk about it, and then forget about it later. this gives you a chance to voice your opinions on paper, when they're still fresh in your head.
since this is a graphic design project, the usual posters, and probably a monthly schedule, etc. would be mandatory. however i was trying to think of other creative ways of getting things across. couldn't think of anything.
then, of course, there's giving people incentive to get their asses to the auditorium. i find it amazing how one would grudgingly (but certainly) go for a shitty hindi movie at fun republic, which is 100 bicks a ticket plus the auto and the popcorn, because they have nothing else to do, and yet not step into the auditorium which is free, has superb air-conditioning, even for a peek, to see what the film being screened looks like.
so that was one really good reason to go the auditorium. however, apart from the fact that you can go to the audi on a tuesday and thursday when youre bored and broke. there's also the 'other side'. the fact that films have this certain something'ness' about them, which i need to put my finger on. i mean, i need to produce a concrete, ummm, educational reason if you like, to get them in there. you know, like 'an apple a day...' sort of analogy. in a word, or a phrase, rather, i need to find an answer to the question, why is it good to watch films that are screened in the auditorium, and how will it benefit you?
hmmm, so my sentences are getting longer and longer and i have this problem called 'forgot-how-my-sentence-began-syndrome'. corrnnyyy.
